Guide: How To Enable Your iPhone Device If It Is Locked Up

Have you ever locked out of your iPhone device? Usually, it happens when you enter the wrong passcode way too often [exceeding the limit]. Subsequently, it results in disabling your device plus the headache which it causes is incomparable.

If you have forgotten your passcode then you are in deep trouble. If you are unable to recall your passcode for a fair amount of time, you will have to erase all your data and settings in order to reuse it. The move will also remove the passcode from the device. Before forgetting your passcode, if you hadn’t made a backup then you will lose everything. However, in the case of backup, the date can be restored soon after restoring the device.

How to enable iPhone device if it is locked up?

This is how you can enable your iPhone device once again if you are locked up:

  • A person should have the accessibility of a computer
  • Ensure that your device is not connected to your computer

Depending on your device, take care of the following steps:

iPhone X or later and iPhone 8 and 8 Plus

Make the power off slider appear by pressing and holding the side button and any one of the volume buttons. Thereafter, turn off your device. Afterwards, connect your device with your computer by holding the side button. You will get to see the recovery mode screen by constantly holding the side button.

iPad with Face ID

Press and hold the top button along with one of the volume buttons to make the power off slider visible. Turn off your device and connect it with your system while pressing the top button. The recovery mode screen will eventually appear once you keep on holding the top button.

iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus and iPod touch (7th generation)

You will need to press or hold the side or top button to make power off slider noticeable. Subsequently, turn off your device by dragging the slider and connect it with your computer while holding the volume [down] button. Recovery mode screen will eventually be visible once you keep on holding the volume [down] button.

iPhone 6s or earlier and iPod touch (6th generation or earlier) or iPad with Home button

Power off slider will get to appear once you keep on pressing and holding the side or the top of the button. Turn your device off and then connect it with your system while holding the home button. You will have to keep holding the home button unless you see the recovery mode screen.

  • Once the aforementioned exercise is done [subject to the model of your device], you will be able to locate the device on your computer. Out of the two options between Restore and Update, choose the former one. Consequently, iTunes or Finder will download the software for your device. In case the activity takes more than 15 minutes, your device will exit the recovery mode and you will have to repeat the entire process.
  • The process will take some time to finish so wait for it. Later, you can set up and start using your device.
