“Kia Scene Hai” – A New Event Discovery Service

You’ll hear people complaining about how there’s nothing to do in Pakistan besides eating out. This despite hundreds of events being organized in large cities such as Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad on a weekly basis. Are these events not good enough? That’s not it. The issue here is very basic – a lack of event discovery.

If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?”

Events in Pakistan tend to focus on word-of-mouth advertisement, and have only recently started using platforms like Facebook as advertising tools. Still, Facebook is not designed specifically for event discovery, making it difficult to locate events in your city, or related to your interests, without being invited to attend them. Enter KiaSceneHai.Pk.

Co-founders Daniyal Shahid (@DaniyalMe), Ahmad Munir (@AhmadMMughal), and Muhammad Junaid Gill (@GillJunaid) were aware of the growing need for an event discovery and online ticketing portal, and decided to do something about it.  With support from their mentor, Omair Bangash, one of the co-founders behind and HCPK.PK, as well as Microsoft, the KiaSceneHai.Pk team launched their website in May 2013.

They credit the support they have received from Mr. Bangash and Microsoft as a key reason they were able to launch their website just two months from when they conceived the idea.

“We’re currently located at Microsoft Innovation Centre at Arfa Software Technology Park in Lahore, which is a walk-in facility with an incubation program through which resources are offered to help Pakistani start-ups grow,” says Daniyal. Microsoft was also instrumental in providing them with technical resources such as software, technical support as well as free workshop sessions.

Omair Bangash was also instrumental to their launch, says Daniyal, having mentored them since April ’13, pushing them to get out of their comfort zone and helping them solve problems as they came up.

Their Vision for KiaSceneHai.Pk

”We started out with the idea to do something about the lack of event discovery all over Pakistan, most importantly in the major cities; Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad, where there is a huge event centric crowd but not enough event discovery to sate their thirst… Tons of quality events fail to reach out to their entire audience just because of the gap that exists between event publicity and the society. We looked to remove this gap by creating a single portal for people to visit and decide what they want to do on a certain day or the coming weekend, browse from a number of adventure trips being convened in and around Pakistan to any talk or conference that might catch their fancy.”

Easy to Use Service

The KiaSceneHai.Pk website is simple to use, and makes it easy to find events in your city. Simply enter your city into the search box and you’ll be shown all the events taking place around you. You can also opt to filter them by keyword, category, or date. Pakistan’s first online ticketing service, KiaSceneHai.Pk offers cash-on-delivery ticketing in Lahore, making it easy to buy event tickets without stepping out of the comfort of your home. You can also subscribe to KiaSceneHai.Pk updates for your city via SMS.

Still More To Come

While online ticketing is available in Lahore, the team hopes to launch the service in Islamabad and Karachi very soon. Also in development, iOS and Android apps, although an app for Windows Phone has already been made available to the public. The founders hope to launch the remaining apps in a few weeks. They also have plans to partner with cinemas for online ticketing services in the coming few years.

Whether you’re looking for networking events, concerts, adventure sports or hoping to attend a play – KiaSceneHai.Pk has you covered. Partnering with a growing number of event organizers every week, you can stay on top of events in your city, and never have to worry about your plans for the weekend again.
