NADRA has verified over 56 million CNICs during ongoing drive

National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has so far verified more than 56 million CNICs during the re-verification initiative. The re-verification drive was started couple of months ago on the directives of Pakistan’s Interior Minister, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan.

NADRA has claimed to achieve the re-verification of as many as 56 million CNICs which is the 60% of country’s population. The purpose of this exercise is to identify the aliens that are residing in Pakistan illegally. As a result, this initiative will expose the strangers since they won’t be able to re-verify themselves.

Satisfactory progress

Chaudhry Nisar has so far expressed his satisfaction about this complete exercise. Moreover, he also stated that 334 aliens had voluntarily returned their CNICs. As a result, the deadline is extended by one month only for the aliens. Earlier, the deadline to handover the illegal CNICs was 31st August 2016.

On the other hand, interior minister also appreciated the efforts of the public who have cooperated with NADRA. In addition, he also lauded media’s role of bringing the much-needed awareness among the people of Pakistan regarding the ongoing re-verification drive.

Officials to be penalized

It has been learnt that 80 officials of the authority were involved in including and accommodating aliens in the tree of a Pakistani family. However, Interior Minister has ordered to take strict actions against those officers who tried to strangers in the database. He also maintained zero-tolerance policy for everyone – whether aliens or officials – who will be caught, while exploiting the CNIC of Pakistan.

The exercise of the re-verification is conducted to discover the aliens who are misusing Pakistan’s CNIC.

To assist the people of Pakistan, NADRA has also established a helpline and an SMS gateway. To ensure the successful completion of the re-verification drive, NADRA also conducted special training for human resources.

Do you think this initiative will help government in achieving their objectives?
