No Loadshedding In Pakistan After November 2017, Claims Chairman BoI

The Minister of State and Chairman of Board of Investment (BoI), Dr. Miftah Ismail has claimed that there won’t be any loadshedding in Pakistan after November, this year.

While speaking to the business community at Islamabad Chamber of Commerce, the minister stated that the energy reforms are currently in progress in the sector along with some other positive initiatives. Subsequently, this will enable Pakistan to generate more power to meet the rising demand of electricity. He said:

“With the energy reforms and positive initiatives of the current government, electricity loadshedding in Pakistan would end by November 2017”

It is noteworthy to mention that Pakistan is currently facing gigantic shortfall of electricity. Due to unanticipated early heat wave and low hydel power generation, the current shortfall in the country is 4,554 megawatts. On 3rd April, the demand of power generation was 17,140 megawatts. However, the reading couple of days ago was alarming 12,586 megawatts from all sources.

Number of ongoing energy projects will help generate electricity

Addressing the business community, he proclaimed that only 23,000 megawatts installed capacity of power electricity had been accomplished in Pakistan for last 70 years. However, the current government has initiated plenty of energy projects which has ultimately helped in generating 25,000 megawatts electricity in Pakistan.

Moreover, he affirmed that another LNG terminal will start functioning by July or August this year. Furthermore, the gas supply of LNG will be enriched from 600mmbtu to 1,800mmbtu. As a result, the boost will diminish the shortage of gas from Pakistan.

New gas connection would be operational in next 4 months for industrial sector. He stated:

“As the government was exploiting cheap energy sources to bring down gradually the cost of electricity, so it would also reduce cost of doing business in Pakistan and make our industry more competitive”
