Shehbaz Sharif officially launches online Dealer Vehicle Registration System

On Saturday (22nd October 2016), the Dealer Vehicle Registration System (DVRS) went online. It was officially inaugurated by Chief Minister of Punjab, Shehbaz Sharif.

Instead of going to excise and taxation department, the vehicle owners can now apply for the registration at the point of sale. Moreover, the system will also benefit the dealers and showroom owners as they can also order license plates from their outlets for their customers.

According to Shehbaz Sharif, the DVRS will prove to be hassle-free as it will ease people with their vehicle’s registration process. In addition, the online system will also eradicate the role of agent’s mafia. He further added:

“Our law enforcement agencies are engaged in fighting against terrorism. DVRS will be another blow to the terrorists by ensuring eradication of fake and illegal number plates”

In collaboration with the Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Department and the PITB, Special Monitoring Unit’s (SMU) Law and Order Department planned the entire Dealer Vehicle Registration System.

Advantages of DVRS

There are no second thoughts that Dealer Vehicle Registration System will assist both the government and customers in number of ways. It will help to at least discourage the sale of stolen cars. Additionally, it will also provide highest convenience in terms of paperwork to the purchaser.

However, the primary goal, according to Punjab’s Excise and Taxation Department is:

“To eliminate the phenomena of plying of unregistered vehicles and to provide maximum convenience to the purchaser of motor vehicles”

Plenty of reputed dealers have given a go-ahead to the new DVRS. It was also reported that as many as 15 dealers from the districts Bahawalpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, Faisalabad, Lahore, Multan and Rawalpindi are in line to get the licenses.

Another key feature of DVRS is that it is connected with the database of National Bank of Pakistan (NBP). It will help the user with the following steps:

1. Customer can pay registration fees
2. Amount will be deducted from dealer’s account
3. Amount will be transferred to the government online
4. Automated receipt will be generated for the customer
5. Customer will be given the license plate after payment
6. Registration book will be sent to E&T department after verification

Besides saving time for both customers and E&T department, this initiative will also cease the trend of Applied-for-Registration (AFR). Generally, AFR cars are the favorite target of thieves. Usually, these complaints are not attended largely because the information is not enough to conduct an investigation.
