These are exciting times for Pakistan’s entrepreneurial ecosystem. From multiple incubators originating nationally to large scale entrepreneurial events like Startup Weekend, Get in the Ring, Open events and now Momentum happening, this ecosystem is bound to reach heights of success. Momentum is the leading startup conference and exhibition in Pakistan. It was a two day event attended by investors, business leaders, tech executives, speakers, startups and academia. While one stage was purely dedicated for pitching where 24 Plan9 startups participated, the others were filled with experts sharing their stories and highlighting newest trends that will design the future of the internet driven business. Amongst these speakers were Dr. Umar Saif, Chairman Punjab Information Technology Board, keynote speaker on the topic ‘Why is innovation important for Pakistan’. Director Entrepreneurship Wing, PITB; Nabeel A. Qadeer was also a part of the panel where Pakistan’s Startup Ecosystem was discussed.
It won’t be wrong to say, the past two days at Momentum Tech Conference were truly constructive for the budding entrepreneurs looking to expand their network in the tech industry. The startup pitch competition started off with 180 startups competing for first 3 positions and a prize money of Rs. 10 lacs, Rs. 7 lacs and Rs. 3 lacs respectively. Amongst the top 180 startups, 24 startups from Plan9 were shortlisted including Gesdrive, Freightix, DIY Geeks, Azauj, CampusFeed, Capital Stake, XGear, Affordable.pk, Euphoria, Baby Planet, Axis Communications, Cart99, Legal Nexus, Mapalytics, Nearpeer, Qayaam, Neurostic, Dastaan, Car Butlers, Car Chabi, Justprice.pk, Uninama, Clique and Emoey. After the first round, 5 startups of Plan9, made it to top 20 namely DIY Geeks, Clique, Campus Feed, Car Butlers and Nearpeer.org. It was a matter of great pride for Plan9, when two of their startups made it to the top 4 including CampusFeed and Nearpeer. However, it was even more of a heartfelt joy when both of them were announced the winners of startup pitch competition. Nearpeer remained 1st runners up and bagged Rs. 7 lacs for their startup while CampusFeed remained the 2nd runners up accepting a prize money of Rs. 3 lacs.
Plan9 is so proud of all their startups who participated at Momentum and made it to the top 180 and even more proud of CampusFeed and Nearpeer for bringing the trophy home.
Dr. Umar Saif, Chairman PITB being extremely happy about this said:
“I always enjoy being at events where I can see young entrepreneurs designing the future of Pakistan. This was indeed one of those days, when the budding entrepreneurs – the future of Pakistan took the limelight. I wish all of them the very best for their futures.”
