With Viber’s ‘Secret Messages’ Now You Can Delete Your Media Messages From Recipient’s Phone

Only a little while ago, WhatsApp announced that it is working on a new development Live Location Tracking. Subsequently, on 31st January 2017, messaging service Viber revealed to launch its new feature: Secret Messages. Through this very feature, you can set a self-destruct timer for your images and videos in a particular conversation.

The newly introduced feature is more like a Snapchat feature i.e. when another person views an image, it is disappeared completely. The picture doesn’t get saved or there aren’t any previews like in Instagram Stories or Messenger My Day.

How Do Secret Messages Work?

This whole new feature of secret messages is extremely easy to use. This is how it works:

  • Take a picture
  • Send it to the receiver on Viber
  • If you do not want the photo to stay in the chat forever then tap on the clock/timer
  • Choose for how many seconds should the picture stay up
  • In case you decide on 20 seconds on self-destruct timer, your image will vanish after 20 seconds

At the outset, when you send a picture or a video to the receiver, it will be blurry for both parties. However, once the content is opened and seen, it will be wiped out of other person’s chat. Moreover, the sender will only be able to see the traces of the image/video.

According to Viber:

“Secret messages lets you decide what should and shouldn’t be a permanent part of your conversation history”

The aforementioned reference states that a user is entitled to choose which messages should be kept in a conversation and which should be eradicated once they are read.

The key advantage of secret messages is that there is no way a recipient can share the content with anyone else. However, they can take the screenshot of the message. It is likely that a receiver won’t get enough time to capture the picture via using a camera due to self-destruct timer.

Do you think this is a good addition from Viber?
