After A Flopped Smartphone ‘Fire’, Amazon Is Now Launching An Ice Phone

Retail giant Amazon is having another go at the smartphone market after failing to impress the customers with a Fire phone. This time around, the company is looking forward to introduce a smartphone which is supposedly known as Ice phone. Since the Fire phone got flopped, Amazon will be having a shot at Ice phone with a much better strategy. The Ice phone will have the full accessibility of Google Play Services including the availability on Play Store and support for all Android apps.

What’s the Ice phone going to be like?

According to the reports, there will be a massive difference between the two phones: Fire and Ice phone. Ice phone has been developed with special emphasis on growing markets such as India. It is pertinent to state that the Fire phone was exclusively launched for the US market. The Ice phone will be shaped in such a manner that it will fittingly suit the needs of the emerging markets.

The phone is rumored to have the following specs:

  • Screen size between 5.2 and 5.5 inches
  • RAM of 2GB
  • Storage space of 16GB
  • Snapdragon 435 processor
  • Fingerprint sensor on the back of the phone

Amazon has put the price tag of mere $93 for the Ice phone. The company is known for rolling out budget devices. However, the aforementioned price can be readjusted at the time of launch.

Availability of built-in Alexa software

It is yet to be confirmed if Amazon’s Alexa built-in software may actually be a part of the final product. If it is left out, as the speculation suggests based upon the fact that the manufacturers of smartphones are focusing on their digital assistant software, it shall be one of the shortcomings of the Ice phone.

Amazon’s Fire phone proved to be a disaster because of various reasons. Some of them include that it could work only with AT&T in the US. Moreover, it did not run Google Play Services and it was designed on a very uncanny version of the Android operating system.

Despite all the shortcomings, Amazon reduced the price of the Fire phone drastically but to no avail. The retail giant is currently hoping to make amends with the launch of Ice phone in the emerging markets.
