Banks in Pakistan to remain closed for 9 days until 10th July 2016

The holy month of Ramadan is almost towards the end and Eid is fast approaching in Pakistan. Met department has also predicted that the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitar is going to be celebrated on 6th July 2016 across the country.

Amidst all this, the schedule of banks holidays is also announced and there are going to be as many as 9 holidays in the first 10 days of July. You will need to request your boss to issue your salary cheque beforehand as deposits made on 30th June will be remitted only on 11th July.

The schedule of the banks across the country for the first 10 days of July is explained…

1st July: Banks will remain closed due to semi-annual audit
2nd and 3rd July: Banks will remain closed due to weekend (Saturday and Sunday)
4th July: This is the only day out of 10 days when the bank will remain opened
5th to 8th July: Banks will be closed due to Eid Holidays
9th and 10 July: Banks will remain closed due to weekend (Saturday and Sunday)

The above schedule indicates that on 4th July, banks will be opened and that would be the only day when the banking operations will take place.

However, State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), through a latest circular, ordered all branches of commercial banks to remain open on 2nd and 9th July (Saturdays). This decision was taken in light to meet customer’s banking needs.

SBP also instructed all the banks to ensure availability of ATM services throughout Eid holidays. A statement read:

“Commercial banks shall strictly ensure availability of ATM services round the clock. For early replenishment of cash at ATMs, banks shall make proper arrangements of currency stock at the respective ATM feeding branches. Further, banks shall make public the contact numbers of the focal person for quick redressal of all complaints relating to malfunctioning or shortage of currency notes in ATMs”

Ideally, it would be important to start getting your banking needs done from today in order to avoid any mishap in the future because there would be plenty of haste and urgency among people especially on 4th July to get their transactions done.
