New Driving License Branch In Karachi To Issue Licenses Within 5 Minutes

A new driving license issuing branch in Karachi is aiming to issue driving licenses in less than 5 minutes. Yes, you read it right – a driving license issued within five minutes. The Saleem Vahidy Auditorium and a Driving License Branch were both inaugurated by IG Sindh Police Allah Dino Khawaja.

An agreement between National Bank of Pakistan (NBP), National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), and the Government has also been signed during the inauguration process. The agreement will ensure fee submission, license shipments (courier management) and upgrade of software currently being used.

The ceremony was attended by officers from Sindh Poilce, NBP staff, representatives of Jazz Cash, and other government officials. The notable presence of attendees included IG Police, President NBP Saeed Ahmad and Head of Business Services Division of Jazz Faisal Sattar.

How will the process flow?

Jazzcash and NBP through their online systems will be providing fee payment services to drivers all across Sindh. The fast fee processing module will be able to both drivers applying for renewal of their license and also people applying for their learners permit. It is to be noted that before Jazz Cash and NBP, the process of fee payment included fees to be paid through Pakistan Post.

The slow process of fee payment along with third party agents was slowing down the process. DIG Mazhar Nawaz Shaikh said that he is hopeful that with the new branch agent mafia which plagues the process will be eliminated. He was also hopeful that the licensing process will now become more authentic and they will be able to minimize fake licenses.

IG Police added that drivers will be saved of a lengthy documentation processes as whole system is now digitized. The process to obtain learners license will also become easier as NADRA’s involvement will ensure that ID cards are directly linked to driving licenses within the internal system.

He also expressed hope that once the trial run is complete, the service will be expanded to other cities of the province.
