Samsung Launches Latest J Series Variants: J5 And J7

Samsung has recently announced a fresh upgrade in its J series of smartphones. The company has launched an updated version of its well-known affordable line with special emphasis on J5 and J7 smartphones by improving on its previous designs and features.

The pricing structure has not been finalized for Pakistani market but it will be slightly higher than the price slabs in the European market. It is expected that J5 (2017) will be available in Pakistan by end of June. While J7 (2017) will hit the market by the end of July this year.

Following are the prices for the two versions in the European market:

  • Galaxy J5 (2017) will cost €280 (around Rs33,000)
  • Galaxy J7 (2017) will go for €340 (around Rs40,000)

Design is similar to S7

The designs of both J series phones are very similar. In addition, there is hardly any difference between J5 and J7 in terms of external outlook. The front design of both phones looks similar to S7 and have curved antenna on the back side. One distinguishing feature is the back camera having a vertical layout instead of a traditional horizontal layout in all Samsung sets.

Due to the difference in price slabs, there is also a difference in display resolutions yet both have a super AMOLED display. J5 has a 5.2″ 720p (1280 x 720) screen while the J7 has a 5.5″ 1080p (1920 x 1080) resolution display. Additionally, both phones have a fingerprint sensor.

However, there is one feature where J7 takes the lead as it has the IP 54 splash resistance, while J5 does not have this feature.

However, both smartphones have an internal storage of 16 GB while expandable storage is also given with a microSD card option. In terms of operating system, both phones operate on Android 7.0 Nougat along with Samsung’s custom UI.

Camera and battery life

Both phones have similar camera specs for their primary camera having 13 MP sensor with an f/1.9 aperture and an LED flash. The difference lies in their front cameras as J5 has a 5MP sensor while J7 has a sophisticated 13 MP shooter with an LED flash.

The battery capacity has been changed for both models as J7 has seen an upgrade from last year’s version reaching 3,600 mAh battery (up from 3,300 mAh in 2016). J5 on the other hand has seen a downgrade reaching 3,000 mAh battery (versus 3,100 mAh in 2016).
