Western Digital Launches Maiden Portable SSD With 515 MB/S Data Transfer Rate

In a latest development, a palm-sized storage device has been introduced by Western Digital. This is the company’s first portable solid state drive which is known as ‘My Passport SSD’.

Specifications

The device has really small dimensions. With a length of 90mm, width of 45mm, and thickness of only 10mm, it is the smallest SSD Western Digital has ever made. In addition to this, the SSD will be available with three different storage capacities.

The three storage capacities along with their prices are listed below:

  1. 256 GB for $99.99
  2. 512 GB for $199.99
  3. 1 TB for $399.99

Data Transfer Speed

The highest speed at which the SSD can transfer data is 515 MB/s. This ultra-fast speed has been achieved by upgrading to a 2nd Gen USB 3.1 port. However, this feature will work only if your PC has a USB 3.1 port. You shouldn’t worry if your PC does not support a USB 3.1 port because the SSD also supports 3.0 and 2.0 ports, but of course, with slower data transfer rate.

Data Security and Physical Protection

With an amazing data transfer speed, the SSD also provides security of data. The device uses 256-bit AES hardware encryption to secure the data stored inside it. In order to prevent physical damage to the device; safeguards against shocks and falls have been installed outside the drive to prevent it from getting damaged. The maximum height from which the device can sustain a fall is 6.5 feet. Moreover, the device comes with a warranty of 3 years.
